OPEN STAGE OF HARRISBURG
STUDIO/SCHOOL

Mission: Open Stage of Harrisburg Studio/School is a training program dedicated to developing the student's skill, knowledge, and appreciation of the process of acting and the making of theatre in both professional and non-professional contexts.

Philosophy: Open Stage of Harrisburg Studio/School believes that every student, of any age and ability, should experience personal and artistic growth. Students participate in ensemble work within an environment that supports everyone's contributions. Above all, every student is encouraged to use his or her personal experiences, perspectives, and unique personality to uncover the many layers of creativity.

A LETTER FROM THE
EDUCATION DIRECTOR

Open Stage of Harrisburg Studio/School was founded in 1985, one year before the theatre began producing plays. Embracing the philosophical mission of the theatre, and the belief that acting is a skill learned through study and practice, the mission of the Studio/School is to focus on process. We are about creating better actors (and people) through our classes and workshops.

Our programs are academic and rigorous, and we continue to offer and to expand our year-round sequential classes for adults and students from grades K-12. Our curriculum is tied to national and Pennsylvania standards in arts education, and the our staff are certified teachers and theatre professionals.

Beginning with a handful of dedicated students in 1985 and growing to over 100 students in 2010, the Studio/School has earned a well-deserved reputation for excellence, serving students from throughout the Capital Region.

In addition to classes at the Studio/School, Open Stage's Education Department offers Study Guides for every play each season, Drama Residencies and Drama Clubs for public and private schools, the Student Matinee Series for daytime school fieldtrips, and post-performance talkbacks after each Series F Sunday Matinee in our Subscription Series.

Located on the street level of the Walnut Street Garage, right across the hall from Open Stage's Angino Family Theatre, the school has provided an environment designed to maximize the quality of theatrical training for adults and children.

We are proud of our school and would love to show you in person. To visit us, please contact us at 717-232-OPEN (6736). We look forward to meeting you.
